Questions and Answers
How long does it take to receive my Vanderburgh Humidor?
Each humidor is crafted, one at a time. Unlike many other humidors, they are not made in China, made on an assembly line, or mass produced. Because of this, your humidor will begin production soon after your order has been received. From this time until it is shipped, you can expect up to 2 months depending upon current production schedule. If requested, we can provide you with images of your humidor at different stages of manufacturer. Because each one is made for you, we can allow some customization without charging any extra. Feel free to send us an email about some options you might entertain on your new humidor.
Why are Vanderburgh Humidors more expensive than other humidors?
Vanderburgh Humidors are not ordinary humidors. They are a complete, high-end solution for cigar preservation, built with special joinery techniques that require much time and precision. These are not simply storage boxes, but literal works of art. Vanderburgh Humidors also use no veneers. A veneer is an inexpensive thin sheet of wood (usually 1/32”) that is applied over another more inexpensive wood or MDF board. We, instead use only solid woods. Our main bodies are constructed from 3/4” solid exotic woods, and our decorative tops are constructed from 3/8” solid exotic wood. The Spanish Cedar interior is fashioned from a 3/4” Solid base, and 1/2” solid sides. We also use no particle board or MDF board that is commonly found in Chinese and other humidors. Most other humidor manufacturers use cheap and ineffective humidification, and inaccurate hygrometers that you will need to replace anyway. Vanderburgh Humidors are hand crafted for you, one at a time in Canada, a country well known for its art and handcraft.
What maintenance is involved in a Vanderburgh Humidor?
Vanderburgh Humidors are pre-finished and require very minimal maintenance. If the humidor requires dusting, you may use a soft, damp cloth to wipe it down. Be sure that the cloth is not too damp as to leave wetness onto the humidor. Murphy’s Oil Soap is a great liquid to use. Follow the instructions on the manufacturer’s bottle. DO NOT use any waxes or cleaning solutions on the inside of your humidor on the Spanish Cedar. This will impregnate your cigars with a nasty scent and taste.
Why is Spanish Cedar always used on the inside of a Vanderburgh Humidor?
Spanish Cedar is known for its ideal qualities for humidor making. Spanish Cedar comes from the mahogany family, and has the following qualities:
- High moisture absorption qualities.
- Discourages Cigar Worms/Beetles due to its odoriferous qualities.
- The delicious scent enhances and compliments the natural nuances of the cigar experience when smoked.
- Very resistant to mold.
