A while ago I set out to design a unique and classic portable ashtray that would acompany on my journeys. If you travel frequently you know that packing light is the only way to go. So I designed a cool and classy leather tray that would not only cradle a cigar, but would un-snap and lay flat when not in use. The leather is naturally burn resistant.
I ran into only one problem ... insurance.
You see, as soon as my insurance company heard the word 'ashtray' they said 'Sorry, Eddie ... nice try'.
However such a beautiful and functional design could not go to waste. Instead of Travel ashtray we we are calling it a desk and travel tray.
A desk tray? Simply because it looks gorgeous on your desk and will hold your pens, keys, wallet and anything else that will fit.
A travel tray? It unfolds, lays down flat and can hold many different things that would normally walk away on you. Cigar cutters, lighters, change.
The main body of the tray is made from full grain cowhide. Then we wrap over the leather and secure it with matching marine-grade stitching. But before that wrap is stiched we line the inside with luxurious goatskin. Over time we didn't want the tray to lose it's rigidity so we added an exta layer of leather to stiffen the base.
A leather satchel is likely the oldest and most classic pieces of luggage ever made. In fact, leather satchels are often discovered as artifacts in archaeological excavations.
In 1991, Otzi, 'The Iceman' was discovered by two Austrian hikers in the Ötztal alps. After carbon dating and studies it was determined that he died about 5300 years ago. One of the items that was found with him was a small leather satchel (still intact) which contained some herbs and a few small tools. This says a few things:
The Vanderburgh Explorer's Satchel is a classic. Perfect for those hikes into the woods when it's time to regain your life's focus. It will fit everything you need for that 4 hour hike, or that fly fishing trip. It will fit compact binoculars, a camera, your pipe and some tobacco. It will perfectly cradle a 6 oz hip flask and your finest scotch.
It's easy to carry with it's removable leather shoulder strap. Clip your satchel to your golf bag and toss a few cigars in it. Or fasten it to loops on your saddle bags on your motorcycle. It has built-in versatility that will surprise you.
Last summer I went on a canoe trip to Northern Minnesota, USA. In my satchel I fit toothpaste, a toothbrush, deoderant, bug spray, knife, flint, and all the necessities for my travels.

The Classic Man knows that it can be difficult to find a well-made wallet. He also has more sense than to spend $1500 on one in some boutique in Paris. He is appalled by the thought of wrapping his hard earned money in vinyl, and appreciates well-made products with an artistic touch.
I used to buy a wallet every few years. It looked fine at first, but soon time took its toll. The stitching started to fail. The nylon lining started to crack or fray. What I thought was quality leather started to fall apart and soon the wallet looked worn out. It was time to move on.
It can also be difficult to find the right style of wallet. I have had wallets that were too simple and lacking enough room for the basics. Others were too bulky and cumbersome to be useful – remember the George Costanza Wallet?
I wanted a wallet that did what I wanted it to do – so I designed my own … for the Classic, Refined Man.
The Classic Man's Wallet is Functional - a special pouch fits your cigar cutter, extra business cards.
It fits just the right amount of cards, bills and receipts. It has a small compartment that fits your cigar cutter, business cards or extra credit cards. It compresses if empty. You don't need anything else.
The Classic Man's Wallet is Handsome and Refined.
It’s made it from luxurious pebble-grain calfskin. Unique, masculin design. Hand-stitched accents. Available in three colors - Honey, Maduro Brown, and Oscuro Black. It will look better the more you use it – like an old saddle.
The Classic Man's Wallet is Tough.
Stitched with marine-grade thread. It's pockets are lined with soft yet durable goatskin. Aside from the stitching, it is completely made of leather. No plastic windows or low-class fabric linings. Quite possibly the last wallet you will ever choose to own.
The Classic Man's Wallet is Intelligently Designed.
Some simple things were done to extend the durability. Most wallets have painted edges that chip and crack over time. Instead, we wrapped the leather over the edges, then stitched it tight – a finishing touch that will pay off over time. Your cards fit vertically into the sleeves. This allows for a more compact, intelligent design.
The Classic Man's Wallet Smells Great.
It smells like you’ve walked into a leathersmith's shop. It will transport your mind to a different time.
The Vanderburgh Classic Man's Wallet. $113
The Classic Man has likely used and disposed of too many mousepads and has been happy with none of them. You've seen them before - offered as 'corporate gifts' by some company trying to promote their product. They usually sport bright, flashy colors, foam backing and will last about as long as one of Liz Taylor's marriages.
Design:
The Vanderburgh Classic Man's Leather Mousepad is unlike any of those. Sporting simple, functional elegance, it makes a plain desk look great, and a fine desk even finer.
Materials:
Consider a hand-cut piece of full-grain cowhide. The kind of leather that looks better the more you use it. We incorporate a coarse-thread stitching to offer a masculine, stately appearance. Cut larger than a typical mousepad, but not too large.
The smooth leather grain is perfect for your laser-mouse, offering accurate precision. It feels great on your hands and wrist. The natural rough bottom is scratch resistant and grips your desk keeping the mousepad stationary.
The Classic Man's Mousepad. $43
Designed by Vanderburgh.
Simple. Classic. The last mousepad you will ever own.
Available in two colors: Dark Coffee Brown, and Natural Tobacco Brown.
Simple. Classic. The last mousepad you will ever own.

Saddleback Leather are the good folks who make the leather satchels in our Outback4 Travel Humidors. The president, Dave Munson and I share many similar passions including our love for the outdoors, travel, family, cigars and our Land Rovers.
Saddleback Leather makes the very finest full grain leather bags that you can find anywhere at any price. They use only thick full grain boot leather in their products. Full grain leather is the type of leather that gets better with age. The harder you use it, the better it looks. I personally own 5 different Saddleback bags, and they look better and better each year.
Saddleback bags, wallets, pouches and satchels are built with strong marine-grade thread, and carry a 100 year warranty on every item. Now that's good enough for me!
If you are looking for a rugged leather bag that is built stronger than a double shot of Cuban coffee, or if you continually get a new wallet every 4 years, look no further than Saddleback Leather bags and leather wallets.
My family recently visited the Saddleback workshop a short while ago and we were very impressed. Saddleback's craftsmen are real experts when it comes to working with leather. The floor is so clean you can nearly eat off of it, and the employees are treated like gold.
