THE STORY of this HUMIDORDiscovery Channel Logo

The wood used on this humidor is high figure birdseye maple, but what make's this wood special is it's story.

250 years ago, loggers around Georgian Bay, Ontario were bringing logs up the St Lawrence River to be exported to Europe and England. The easiest (and only) way to transport these logs was through the water. Sometimes these logs became waterlogged, and ended up sinking to the bottom of the bays and rivers, there to sit undisturbed for the next few centuries.

Discovery Old Growth Handcrafted Birdseye HumidorIn 2003 a company called Georgian Bay Wetwood went out into Georgian Bay and searched for these sunken logs, bring up natural pieces of history. These logs are kiln dried and prepared just like normal lumber, but being old growth wood, the character is richer, the colors are deeper, and the grain patterns are tighter.

Because the waters of Georgian Bay are naturally cold, the wood has been perfectly preserved for all of these years.

A few years ago, The Discovery Channel's 'Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe' did a TV show on Georgian Bay Wetwood. On the show they brought up a 200 year old maple log, and this exquisite high-figure Birdseye Maple board came from that very log.

The body of this humidor is complimented with Solid Spanish Cedar and is hand-polished to a rich orangy finish. It matches perfectly with the golden yellow and subtle green hues of the birdseye maple.Discovery Old Growth Handcrafted Birdseye Humidor Character

We have integrated solid brass barrel hinges into the body of the humidor, as well as integrated a neoprene rubber seal into the spanish cedar lining ensuing a perfect seal all of the time.

Because of the exceptional beauty of the birdseye maple, we left it's natural edge exposed revealing the rich and robust solid wood.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind humidor and has a great story to tell.
